Scripture Memory Incentives for CPC Children and Youth

Scripture memory should be valued because of the blessing of putting God’s Word into your mind. However, a few incentives along the way can also encourage those who have never tried Bible memory, as well as build community through shared celebrations. This is especially true for children and youth. This is a summary of incentives our church will provide.  Parents may choose to add additional incentives. Some parents may not wish to have their children participate.  Participation is optional. The greatest reward is knowing the Word of God.

To participate, please contact Anna McMurry at 931-266-0594 or at mcmurry.family@yahoo.com .

Which verses are eligible for prizes? “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) The purpose of giving incentives to encourage growing in the knowledge of God and his word.  Any verse is eligible, unless your child has already reported this verse.

Scripture Squires: After the first 5 verses learned, each child in preschool and Kindergarten will receive a Fighter Verse Tote Bag.  This blue bag features Proverbs 18:10 and a picture of a strong tower. For every five verses after that, awarded the child a button star which can be sewed or glued onto the bag.  Note: children do not have to learn from the “Fighter Verses” memory program to earn the bag.Knights in Training: Children earn one knight figurine for every 25 verses that have been successfully memorized and recited. Grades 1-5.

Swordbearer Pictures:  For every 25 verses, a child (or adult!) of any age will have his/her picture taken wearing part of the “Knight” costume to show he/she is putting on the “armor of God”.  After 100 verses, he/she will have a picture taken in the full costume and will be recognized by our congregation.  Pictures will be posted in the Sunday School hallway.

Youth incentives:  Our middle and high school Sunday School classes will also encourage our youth with “social” incentives for students as they reach milestones.  These will be determined with the advice of our youth/AIM group.
